Throughout his four years at UC Berkeley Martin Perez Jr was a member of the Cal Corps Public Service Center, serving as Site Director of Think College Now and Washington Elementary School?s, after school programs in Oakland and Berkeley. As Site Director he created the annual BUILD Parent Education Outreach Conference. He also served as an Executive Member of their Cal Corps Public Service Center Student Advising Committee implementing strategies for the betterment of their 80 public service programs on campus and in the Bay area community. Within his Cooperative housing community he was hired as Fenwick Weavers Village Apartment Manager, the highest ranked student leadership position within the Berkeley Student Cooperative organization. In this position Martin refined his abilities as a leader and was awarded the Pioneer Award, an award given to co-op members who go above and beyond their call of duty to create an innovative idea or project that has benefited their cooperative.

 

Within the South Central Scholars community he currently serves as the Regional Director of UC Berkeley were he has worked actively in creating events, mentorships and bringing the undergraduate scholars, alumni and UC Berkeley community together. He has recently been given the opportunity to serve as the Outreach Coordinator of the South Central Scholars Alumni Association (AA) where he will assist the development of the Regional Directors and implement new strategies to encourage seniors and graduate scholars to be part of our Alumni Association. His professional legal experience stems from working as a Paralegal Intern at the offices of Heller Ehrman LLP in New York City and Compliance Department Intern at Trust Company of the West in Los Angeles. He is currently studying at the National Autonomous University of Mexico School of Law while working for Mexico?s Department of State under the Criminal and Penal Division providing legal services to Mexican citizens convicted in U.S. territory. He was recognized by the UC Education Abroad Program for being the first to be part of such prestigious internship program. His passions are surrounded around Education, Immigration and Juvenile Justice. He will continue to deepen his passions, develop his leadership skills and interests this upcoming Fall 2011 as a Teach For America Corps Members in Phoenix, Arizona.
